Katie Kemp is a sophomore fashion design student from Atlanta, Georgia. Clothing, in her eyes, is an extension of the body, a way to pay respect to the beauty of the human form while encouraging expression and creativity.

 

Katie’s inspiration comes from the natural world and from others who understand and can capture natural beauty within a unique medium. Authors, musicians, painters, sculptors, architects, and a vast amount of other creatives before her have studied, created, and explored within the natural world. Studying their work helps her to see new, fresh perspectives as she creates clothing that flows from her environment and compliments the form of the body. “A person’s individuality can be seen and understood from the way they express themselves, and I strive to create items that inspire that expression.” 

 

Fashion holds so much power and she believes that understanding nature, the human body, and the energies and rhythms that bring them together is one of the most important steps of the design process.
